Director Statement
Child in Time is a film about performance, memory, and the quiet strength we inherit from those who raise us.
I was drawn to the fragile moment when confidence collapses under pressure — especially in youth, when achievement can feel tied to identity. The stage, in this film, becomes more than a competition space; it becomes a psychological arena where fear and memory collide.
The unexpected interruption of a phone ringing — carrying a melody from the protagonist’s childhood — is not merely a coincidence. It represents how deeply early encouragement lives within us, even when we forget it. In the midst of panic, what rescues her is not technical mastery, but the echo of her father’s voice and the emotional safety it once provided.
I wanted to explore how resilience is often rooted in love — quiet, ordinary love — that shapes us long before we realize it. Sometimes, moving forward means returning, even briefly, to the child we once were.
