I was drawn to the quiet tension between how a young woman sees herself and how she is seen by others. In spaces where women’s presence is already coded with suspicion, reputation often becomes a substitute for truth — shaping not only how they are judged, but how their intentions are interpreted.

In Xiaobei, I wanted to reflect on a kind of emotional vulnerability that is rarely acknowledged: a longing for love, recognition, and sincerity that exists beneath socially imposed labels. When kindness is filtered through prejudice, even genuine acts of care can be mistaken for manipulation or deceit.

This film is not about innocence or guilt, but about the fragile space in which empathy is misunderstood. It asks whether a woman’s desire to love and to be loved can ever exist outside the assumptions placed upon her — and how easily sincerity becomes suspect in a world that has already decided who she is.
