Attended Kartemquin’s 60th Anniversary Summer Soirée

I had the pleasure of attending Kartemquin Films’ 60th Anniversary Summer Soirée, celebrating six decades of documentary storytelling and community.

The evening brought together an inspiring group of documentary filmmakers, artists, ambassadors, and members of the Kartemquin community. One of the highlights was finally meeting in person many of the people whose work I had long admired. I also had the opportunity to speak with Jenny Shi, director of Finding Yingying; filmmaker Shuling Yong; multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker Cam Be; and Jada Bufford, who was featured in Kartemquin’s documentary series America to Me.

I’m especially grateful to Cindy Martin for her warm welcome and support throughout the evening. It was a wonderful night filled with meaningful conversations, new connections, and a welcoming documentary community.
